Burkeley's Chevron Bed

The 26" corn yellow and white chevron pillow cover by This Little Home started out as a purchase to cover an oversized pillow in our family room. It quickly became otherwise as Miss B-Dog discovered its splendor, as well. Adorable yet comfortable. That's what I thought. And so did she.

The scenario, while at first glance seems like a take-over of a perfectly good oversized pillow, works out perfectly, actually.

I'd been wanting to get Burkeley a pillow/bed for the family room that fit in seamlessly with the rest of our decor - something that didn't scream "dog bed." This pillow has a matching partner, one that happens to be a pillow of the stiffer variety, which Burkeley naturally shuns (like it's offensive, even).

Both pillows are tossed on the light gray sectional. They are cute during the day + practical when it's time to settle in for a good night of reading (Adam) and reality TV watching (Emily). The dog gets hers. And we get ours.

Cruising

It's the first Burkeley video on House of Burkeley! This is a little taste of B-Dog cruising through the beautiful and great city of Portland on a summer day with her beard, in all its glory, blowing in the wind...

Mountain Dog

This weekend's road trip took us to Mount Hood. The air was fresh, the snow was still abundant, and there were plenty of new sights and smells for her to take in. It was a picture-perfect kind-of day. Absolutely beautiful.

Sweet Door Stop

While away on vacation, I found this old iron Schnauzer in a sweet boutique. (Full disclosure: The shop owner called it a Westie. Burkeley is a Schnauzer, however, so we shall call it a Schnauzer.)

It will live out its life holding our bedroom door open on breezy days when the windows are open wide.

Wash Day

It's wash day for Burkely. Other than a wet shakety shake mid-bath, she's really quite agreeable to getting fresh and clean every third(ish) week. The real show comes after soap and water have done their bit. Once the towel comes off, Burkeley consistently darts to the nearest carpeted location and manages to create figure eights with her head planted in the carpet for a solid twenty minutes + at a pace and force that would make you believe there is a significant prize up for grab. To be dry and warm. That is the prize. A prize that she manages to achieve.

Sunday Morning in Bed

Dog Decor in Elle Decor

Elle Decor has a great collection of interior images that feature dogs, called Dog Decor. I could not agree more with the article's subhead:

"Any room, no matter how chic, is enhanced by a furry friend."

Pet Pantry

I'm loving this Pet Food Pantry featured in Better Homes and Gardens.

"Make it easy on yourself and your pet: Store dog food in a pantry closet near your pooch's eating spot. Here, food is kept in metal bins and treats are in a large jar."

Well Said

DIY Pet Tote

For the creative pet person, this Animal Tote Craft by Country Living Magazine is a cute and simple way of making a perfectly adorable yet functional bag. Country Living provides templates for woodland animals, like deer, an owl, and a squirrel. However, one could easily make a template of one's pet's silhouette. (Take a profile image of your pet against a blank backdrop. Print. Trace onto card stock. Cut. Use as template and proceed with the project).

DIRECTIONS to Make Custom Tote (compliments of County Living Magazine)
Step 1: Print the animal template of your choice from the list below and cut out. Using our photo as a guide, pick a mix of fabrics and place your template's pieces on the fabrics; trace and cut out.

Step 2: Next, trace the template's pieces onto iron-on adhesive ($3.99 per yard-long roll; joann.com) and cut inside the lines so the adhesive shapes are slightly smaller than the fabric ones. Following the package instructions, iron adhesive to the back of fabric.

Step 3: Remove the adhesive's backing. Working pattern side up, center the animal's fabric body on the bag and iron in place. Follow with the other pieces of the animal, again using our photo for guidance. Finish by sewing on button eyes for the owl and squirrel.

Schnauzer Cookie

Imagine our excitement when we came across a Schnauzer cookie cutter at our favorite neighborhood kitchen store. I baked up peanut butter dog treats and used the cookie cutter to cut them into spitting images of Burkeley. She loved them!

Nap Time

Burkeley napping upside down. She slept like a baby in this position - and chooses it often. To each her own.

Good Read

Modern Dog Magazine. Great product reviews. Interesting interviews and dog news. Informative breed profiles. It's like O Magazine but for Burkeley. Love it!

Looking Back: Puppy Days

Burkeley as a wee pup. Three years ago. Stating the obvious: it was love at first sight.

Rover Dog

Fashion for the furry at its finest. Rover Dog is hands down one of my favorite shops for dog apparel. Burkeley sports the Cabin Pea Coat.

With all these cute fashions, it should be known that Burkeley, at best, wears clothing for 45 minutes at a time maybe seven days out of the year. If she didn't convey such a stunning production of a sob story paired with a spot on impression of ice cream melting in the hot summer sun, then we may force the issue.

Sweet Tooth

Irish Cream and Chocolate Chip Bundt Cake has Burkeley mighty curious...

Weekend Style

To celebrate the weekend, Burkeley is sporting the Embellish.

Tea Party with Minna

Burkeley's number one fan and play buddy: person cousin Minna. While visiting, Minna and I planned a sweet little tea party with special guest... Burkeley! Burkeley is joined by a stuffed Burkeley toy with rabbit ears (yes, random) that we gave to Minna as a gift. Thanks to the abundance of apples and bananas fed to Burkely by Minna, a great time was had by all.

Playing with Cousin Leif

Leif, Burkeley's person cousin, came to visit over Memorial Day weekend. They bonded over chasing bubbles.

Nap Time

Nap Time. A post title that could be put on automatic pilot. Using a pillow is Burkeley's preferred way of napping. The girl has taste - choosing my favorite grey chevron pillow to rest her head for a mid-afternoon nap.
